A polynomial is an expression which is formed by summing one or more terms, each of which consists of a constant multiplied by one or more variables raised to a non-negative integer power. In other words, a polynomial is an expression composed of constants, variables and exponents. The degree of a polynomial is the largest exponent of the variable. The polynomial can be written in the form of a polynomial equation in one or more variables.

A polynomial of degree n is an expression of the form: p(x) = a_0x^n + a_1x^(n-1) + ... + a_{n-1}x + a_n where a_0, a_1, ..., a_n are constants, and n is a non-negative integer.

Polynomials can be used to describe many kinds of mathematical functions, from the simple linear equation to more complex equations such as the quadratic equation, cubic equation, and higher order equations. Polynomials are also used in many other areas such as calculus and number theory.
